Your Personal Guide to England
"True travel is more than a selfie at a famous monument. It’s about the quiet stories etched into the stones of a medieval bridge, the shared laughter in a centuries-old village square, and the deep, personal connection to the land beneath your feet."
A Lifetime of Heritage
I grew up in the same Norfolk village where my ancestors have lived since at least 1620. My passion for the past isn't just professional—it's personal. After decades of researching the laborers, craftsmen, and pioneers of this land, I’ve realized that history is a living, breathing thing.
From discovering the 17th-century baptismal fonts of my own forebears to tracing the agricultural legacies of the rural working class, I have spent nearly fifty years uncovering the "Hidden Britain" that exists just beyond the tourist track.
Beyond the Tourist Track
While we visit the grand Cathedrals and storied Castles, my expertise lies in bringing the daily life of the past into the present.
The Scholars’ Walk: Explore the prestigious "Secret" Colleges of Cambridge and Oxford, where the architecture tells the story of Britain’s intellectual and cultural evolution.
The Living Landscape: Experience the "Roots to Boots" reality of our heritage. We traverse the winding lanes, the ancient Roman Roads, and the quiet Medieval Bridges that have carried travelers for centuries.
The Social Fabric: History is best shared. Whether it’s tea in a cottage garden or a rest beside the crackling hearth of a historic country inn, I focus on the authentic hospitality that makes our islands feel like home.
From Local Roots to National Heritage
My journey began in the villages of Norfolk, where I first shared my passion through Norfolk Tours. However, history knows no borders. As my guests’ curiosities expanded, so did my horizons.
What began as a local specialty has naturally evolved into The English Connection, a national service covering England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. Whether I’m guiding you through a Norman Priory or helping you decode a handwritten will from the 1700s, my goal is to act as a "Living Bridge"—ensuring you don’t just visit these islands, you connect with them.
A Trusted Voice in Media
As a frequent guest on Big Blend Radio and a long-term editorial contributor to heritage magazines, I am dedicated to preserving our shared history. When I’m not in the archives or behind the wheel, you can usually find me exploring new trails—or occasionally finding a new perspective from a zipline!
